Take a step back into the Fabulous 50's with a visit to the Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre - offering the Finest in Film, Food, Fun and Family Entertainment. Come early and enjoy a homemade picnic dinner of broasted chicken or "Crazy Harry's" BBQ Ribs from the Cherry Bowl Diner. Try our popcorn topped with real creamery butter. Visit the shops or build a stuffed animal at Cherry Bowl Gifts & Goodies. Let the kids play on the playground or the whole family can enjoy a round of mini-golf. City Opera House

Traverse City's handsome second-story City Opera House has been a source of community pride since its construction in 1891. The first building in Traverse City to install electric lights, the Opera House hosted plays, lectures, meetings, balls, concerts and vaudeville acts before closing in 1920. It is being restored to its former splendor, and is now used for a variety of community meetings, dances and other events. The restoration is nearly complete, and in 2007 the Opera House has planned a full schedule of performance events. Tickets for many events are available online at the Opera House Web site.

Grand Traverse Lighthouse & Museum

One of the oldest lighthouses on the lakes, the Grand Traverse Lighthouse at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula has guided ships through the northern entrance to the Manitou Passage for 150 years. Located nine miles north of Northport in the Leelanau State Park, the lighthouse was home to generations of keepers and their families. Extensive exhibits chronicle their lives and the experiences of those who sailed the lakes. A gift shop is housed in a separate building, and picnic facilities are available.

Operated by the City of Traverse City, Hickory Hills is a fine local ski area during the winter months. The rest of the year, it offers hiking opportunities just a stone's throw from downtown, rewarding walkers with fine views of the surrounding area. It is also the site of a disc golf course.
